Children's Liturgy of the Word

 Children’s Liturgy of the Word

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered to children ages 4 - 6 years old. Although the Children’s Liturgy of the Word does not take the place of regular catechetical classes, they are a counterpart to the main assembly’s liturgy of the word. As ritual prayer, the liturgy celebrates the word of God in narrative and song, making it visible in gesture and symbol and culminates in the celebration of the Eucharist.

The Children’s Liturgy of the Word usually meets on the first and third Sunday of the month during the 9:00AM Mass. It begins in October and ends in May.

Please see the schedule listed below for Children's Liturgy dates:

2023-24 SCHEDULE

At Immaculate Heart of Mary, the children are invited up to the altar by the priest at the beginning of Mass and are then led by the Catechist to the Multipurpose Room where the Sunday Gospel is shared in child friendly terms. The children will learn and discuss the Sunday Gospel and sometimes they will take home a brief synopsis with an activity that they can do with their families. They will rejoin their families and the rest of the assembly in church prior to the celebration of the Eucharist.

We look forward to seeing your children at this special time. Should you have any questions, please contact the Religious Education Office at 302-762-5550 or ihmreled@ihm.org.
